Junior varsity hoops team falls to Mayfield on the road

The Hudson junior varsity boys basketball team fell to 1-1 on the season after losing a 40-38 decision to Northeast Ohio Conference rival Mayfield Dec. 10 on the road.

It was only the Explorers' second defeat in the last 23 games. Hudson trailed 40-28 with 4 minutes, 54 seconds left in the game before making a furious comeback.

Peter Funk cut the Wildcats' advantage to 40-38 with a drive to the hoop with 53 seconds left. The Explorers had a chance to win in the final seconds, but Jackson Hickert's three-point attempt rimmed out at the buzzer.

Davey Spitz led Hudson with nine points and Isaac McGillis contributed eight points for the Explorers.

Residents race in Cleveland

Several Hudson residents ran in the "A Christmas Story" 10K race Dec. 7 in Cleveland.

WRA girls lose to Beaumont

The host Western Reserve Academy girls basketball team lost a 44-24 decision to Cleveland Heights Beaumont Dec. 10.

With the loss, the Pioneers dropped to 1-3 on the season. Cat Berry scored all of her team-high 10 points in the fourth quarter for Reserve.

WRA was scheduled to visit Streetsboro Dec. 12. Results were not available at press time. The Pioneers are set to entertain Hartville Lake Center Christian Dec. 17 at 6:30 p.m.

Sports camp offered

A Winterfest Sports Camp for children in grades kindergarten to fifth is set to be offered by Jump Start Sports on Dec. 23, 26 to 28 and Jan. 2 and 3 at Pinnacle Sports, 9550 Ravenna Road in Twinsburg.
