Hudson wrestlers place third at Briggs Tournament

The Hudson wrestling team finished third at the six-team Briggs Tournament Dec. 7 at Copley High School.

The Explorers posted a 3-2 mark with wins over Maple Heights (41-35), Norwalk (36-34) and Copley (43-24). Hudson lost to Carrollton (42-25) and Brunswick (53-18).

Brunswick won the competition with a 5-0 record and Carrollton (4-1) placed second.

Ben Krizman was named the Explorers' Most Valuable Wrestler. He finished 5-0 at 182 pounds with three pins (48 seconds, 1:18 and 37 seconds) and two wins by decision (6-5 and 9-3).

Chris Motter also went 5-0 at 138 pound for Hudson. He earned a pin in 1:08 and a major decision at 20-5. He also won two decisions (8-6 and 10-8) and got one victory by forfeit.

Nathan Szoch (9-1, 10-2, 3:31 and 7-6) and Matt Slater (two pins by 45 seconds, 5:17 and forfeit) finished 4-1 for the Explorers at 132 and 220 pounds, respectively.

Earning three wins for Hudson were Ben Boysel (7-3, 3:05 and forfeit) at 126 and Billy Buehl (1:18, 6-0 and 1:17) at 145.

The Explorers got two wins apiece from Christian Owsley (10-2 and forfeit) at 113, Sandor Chunyo (1:48 and 5:24) at 170, Joe Delsanter (45 seconds and 13-4) at 195 and Dylan Carlson (1:14 and 39 seconds) at 285.

Nicci Polifrone (7-0 at 106) and Collin Hall (9-1 at 152) won one match apiece for Hudson.
