It all started with a 2-0 win over its nemesis.
It came to a heartbreaking end with that same nemesis.
The Hudson field hockey team's stellar season came to a sudden conclusion after losing to Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown in a Division I regional semifinal contest Oct. 22 at Scott Malson Field.
With the win, the Lady Blazers (12-7) advanced to a regional final title contest. Hathaway Brown has reached the state tournament 10 consecutive years. The Lady Explorers finished the season with a 13-3 record.
Hudson earned a 2-0 win over the Lady Blazers earlier in the season. That was the start of a 12-game winning streak. The Lady Explorers allowed just one goal during that stretch.
This time, Hathaway Brown had the last laugh even though Hudson had possession of the ball for a majority of the game.
Alexis Chauvette's goal with 8 minutes, 20 seconds left in the first half proved to be the difference.
Elana Scott and Emily Fletcher were credited with the assists. Lady Blazers' goalkeeper Riley Whitmyer made 10 saves.
