It's a safe bet that the Hudson field hockey team knew it was inevitable.
The Lady Explorers will get another crack at perennial state power Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown after earning a 3-0 victory over Stow-Munroe Falls in a Division I second-round playoff game Oct. 18 at Scott Malson Field.
With the win, second-seeded Hudson earned a date with fifth-seeded Hathaway Brown in a district semifinal contest Oct. 22 at Malson Field. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
The Lady Explorers (13-2) goes into the contest on a 12-game winning streak. Hudson earned a 2-0 win over Hathaway Brown earlier in the season.
Against Stow, Erin Hoover got the Lady Explorers on the board when she scored on a penalty corner with 26 minutes, 28 seconds left in the first half. Marybeth Slager had the assist.
Hoover scored goal No. 2 on a penalty stroke a little more than seven minutes into the second half. The Lady Bulldogs were called for a penalty when a ball that was heading for the goal made contact with a Stow player.
Slager made it 3-0 when she tipped Hoover's shot off a penalty corner with 15:42 remaining in the game.
Hudson had an 11-2 advantage in penalty corners and outshot Stow 14-5.
Lady Bulldogs goalkeeper Kayla Cartwright finished with 10 saves. Lady Explorers' keeper Jackie Kisthardt stopped five shots.
