Trailing 10-7 at halftime, the Hudson football team looked vulnerable for the first time in 2013.
Thanks to their second-half explosion, the Explorers improved to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the Northeast Ohio Conference Valley Division after posting a 35-17 victory over Strongsville Oct. 18 on the road.
Ben Hart gave Hudson the lead for good (14-10) with a 1-yard touchdown run with 5 minutes, 48 seconds left in the third quarter. Pierce Royster added the second of his five points after tries.
Less than four minutes later, the Explorers made it 21-10 when Jared Ruffing caught a 27-yard TD pass from Mitch Guadagni.
The Mustangs cut their deficit to 21-17 when Zach Kahn scored on a 13-yard run. Drew Shepard added the second of his two extra points.
Strongsville (5-3, 1-2) never got closer.
Hart added a 5-yard run with 4 minutes left in the game and Ruffing concluded the scoring for Hudson with a 2-yard TD run with 49 seconds remaining.
The Mustangs led 10-0 late in the first half, thanks to a 19-yard field goal by Shepard and an 11-yard TD pass from Bobby Cole to Drew Robertson.
The Explorers cut their deficit to 10-7 when Guadagni completed a 13-yard TD pass to Colton Whited with 28 seconds remaining in the half.
Hudson outgained Strongsville 423-222. Despite throwing three interceptions, Guadagni completed 17 of 26 passes for 287 yards. He also added 69 yards in 13 attempts.
Ruffing led the receiving corps with five catches for 118 yards. Whited added six receptions for 102 yards.
