Akron – Akron’s costumed 5k run, Monster Dash, is not in danger of being canceled due to the Federal Government shutdown.
Monster Dash, benefiting Spring Garden Waldorf School, will take place Sunday, Oct. 27 at 9:15 a.m. on the section of the Ohio & Erie Towpath Trail that runs from behind Lock 3 Park to Dart Avenue. This section of the Towpath Trail is managed by Metro Parks Serving Summit County, which is not affected by the government shutdown.
“We want to reassure the community that Monster Dash will proceed as planned,” said Katie Greenwald, event organizer. “We’re thrilled to be able to provide this fun and health-focused event to the Greater Akron community.”
Registration is $25 through October 26 or $30 on race day. Event organizers encourage participants to register before October 26 in an effort to save on the day-of registration price increase. Registration is available at sgws.org/news.
Packet pick-up will take place at the Akron Civic Theatre on Sunday, October 27, beginning at 8 a.m. An awards ceremony will be held for multiple age groups beginning at 10 a.m. at the Akron Civic Theatre.
A free pre-race family fun trick-or-treating event, called Trick-Or-Trot, presented by CCI Greenheart, will take place in Lock 3 Park at 8:30 a.m. Pre-registration is encouraged for Trick-Or-Trot and is available at sgws.org/news.
