Hudson, Cuyahoga Falls, Stow-Munroe Falls and Twinsburg plan to join new conference

Published: September 17, 2013 6:16 PM

According to a press release from the Hudson City School District, the Superintendents of the Cuyahoga Falls, Hudson, Stow-Munroe Falls and Twinsburg City School Districts will recommend to their Boards of Education that their district accept an invitation to join the newly reconfigured Suburban Athletic Conference effective the 2015-2016 school year. The votes should come early next week.

The newly formed Suburban League also invited Brecksville-Broadview Heights, North Royalton, Aurora, Kent Roosevelt and Barberton in order to be able to form two-eight team divisions of similar enrollment. If approved, Cuyahoga Falls, Hudson, Stow-Munroe Falls and Twinsburg City will be in the larger school division along with Brecksville- Broadview Heights, North Royalton, Nordonia and Wadsworth.

Schools invited to play in the smaller school division are Copley, Cloverleaf, Highland, Tallmadge, Revere, Barberton, Kent Roosevelt and Aurora.

The newly formed, expanded Suburban League will offer the opportunity for large and small school division cross-over for league and non-league play where appropriate and a tighter geographic area for play when considering middle of the week contests for many sports and for middle school, freshman and junior varsity competition.

In a joint statement issued by the superintendents they agree, "The Suburban League -- large Division schools have played each other in competition in years past. This move allows us to revive exciting rivalries and build great relationships in this newly expanded league. These relationships will also help foster healthy competition for our students both in the classroom and on the field. The close proximity of these schools will allow our fans, teams and band to cut down on travel time and expenses, and is in the best interest of our students."
