The Hudson girls golf team earned a split with Northeast Ohio Conference Valley Division rivals Solon and Medina Aug. 21 at Grantwood Country Club in Solon.
The Comets beat both teams with a score of 162. The Lady Explorers (1-1) shot a 168 and the Bees scored a 175.
Medina's Mindy Herrick earned medalist honors with a 36. Julia Goodson led Hudson with a 39 and sister Nicole Goodson added a 40. Also contributing for the Lady Explorers were Meredith Spitz (43) and Moe Madar (46).
Despite falling just short of a 2-0 start, Hudson head coach Doug Snelling was extremely pleased with his team's performance.
"I'm very proud of our girls," he said. "Julia Goodson carded her first varsity 30's score and the team shot better than it did in any match last year.
"It was a pleasure to watch eight girls in our NOC Valley Division shoot 44 or better."
The Lady Explorers were scheduled to compete in the Midwest Classic Aug. 24 at Skyland Pines Golf Course in Canton. Results were not available at press time.
They are set to participate in the Walsh Jesuit Invitational Aug. 26 at Ohio Prestick Country Club.
Play is scheduled to begin at noon.
Hudson is set to visit Valley Division foe North Royalton Aug. 27 before hosting Valley Division rival Strongsville Aug. 28 at Ellsworth Meadows Golf Club.
Play is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. both days.
Boys fall to Medina
The host Hudson boys golf team fell to Medina in its Northeast Ohio Conference Valley Division debut Aug. 21 at the Country Club of Hudson.
The Bees earned a 164-175 victory. Will Kurtz led the Explorers with a score of 39. Also playing for Hudson were Dave Sexton (44), Kevin Kubik (45) and Johnny Merrill (47).
The Explorers were scheduled to compete at the University School Invitational Aug. 24 at Windmill Lakes Golf Course in Ravenna. Results were not available at press time.
They are set to visit Valley Division rival Strongsville Aug. 27 at 3:30 p.m.
