The host Hudson baseball team improved to 20-4 after posting a 6-1 victory over Westlake in the third annual Cure Tay-Sachs Classic May 11 at Cuyahoga Community College West in Parma.
After the Demons, who fell to 10-13 overall, scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning, the Explorers countered with two runs in the bottom of the first.
Hudson added three runs in the second and one more in the fifth. The Explorers finished with seven hits and two errors. Westlake had four hits and no errors.
Hudson right-hander Jared Hoffman (2-0) got the win on the mound with five innings of work. He was named the Fireball Player of the Game.
Joey Cahill had a triple in the first inning, a double in the fifth and scored both times for the Explorers. Nanak Saran drove in two runs and Tim Kennedy had a double and drove in a run for Hudson. Kennedy, a third baseman, also played a role in eight of Westlake's outs.
The Explorers were scheduled to host Northeast Ohio Conference rival Elyria May 14. Results were not available at press time.
They are set to entertain NOC foe Brush May 15 at 4:30 p.m. Second-seeded Hudson is scheduled to host the Stow-Munroe Falls-Akron Firestone winner in a Division I sectional title game May 17 at 4:30 p.m.
