Hudson softball team settles for split with Hoban

The Hudson softball team settled for a split with Akron Archbishop Hoban May 4 on the road.

The Lady Knights earned a 4-3 win in the first game, but the Lady Explorers posted an 11-6 victory in the second game.

In the first game, left-hander Lexi Dorr took the loss on the mound. Hudson scored three runs in the top of the fifth, but Hoban came right back with four runs in the bottom of the fifth.

The Lady Explorers (6-9) finished with five hits and one error. The Lady Knights finished with seven hits and one error.

Kelly Gough led Hudson with two hits, including a double, a run scored and a run batted in. Kelly DiLullo added one single and two RBIs.

Right-hander Nikki Turner got the win in the second game. The Lady Explorers took control with seven runs in the top of the fifth and finished with 16 hits and two errors. Hoban had six hits and three errors.

Gough had another huge day with four hits, two runs scored and an RBI.

Nicole Means had three hits, two runs scored and three RBIs and Aislinn Sharkey had two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Erika Howard added two hits, two runs scored and an RBI for Hudson.

The Lady Explorers earned a 9-5 win over Twinsburg May 3 on the road.

With the victory, Hudson improved to 2-2 in the Northeast Ohio Conference River Division.

Trailing 3-1, the Lady Explorers broke it open with eight runs in the top of the fifth. Hudson finished with 10 hits and one error. The Lady Tigers had 11 hits and three errors.

Turner, who entered the game in the fourth, got the win on the mound.

Gough led the Lady Explorers with two hits, including a double, two runs scored and two RBIs.

DiLullo also drove in two runs and had two hits and Sydney Coleman added two hits.

Hudson posted a 6-1 victory against Copley May 2 on the road.

The Lady Explorers scored all six of their runs in the first three innings and finished with 11 hits and two errors. Dorr got the win on the mound as the Indians had one hit and two errors.

Gough, Howard, Sharkey, Means and Turner each had two hits. Turner and Sharkey each had a double.

Katie Maggio scored two runs and Coleman drove in two runs.

Hudson got the 10th seed in the Akron Division I sectional-district tournament. The Lady Explorers are scheduled to visit ninth-seeded Twinsburg May 14 at 4:30 p.m.

Aurora, the defending Akron district champion, got the top seed and Stow-Munroe Falls, Austintown Fitch and Warren Harding received the second, third and fourth seeds, respectively.

The Lady Explorers were set to host River Division rivals Mentor May 6 and Stow-Munroe Falls May 7. Results of those games were not available at press time.

Hudson is scheduled to entertain River Division foe Mentor May 8 before heading to Medina for an NOC showdown May 10 at 4:30 p.m.
