The Hudson boys swimming and diving team recently had its awards banquet.
The Explorers finished sixth at the Division I state meet after winning both the Cleveland district and Akron sectional titles.
Hudson also finished 7-2 in dual meets and took third in the Northeast Ohio Conference Valley Division.
Explorers head coach Matt Davis recently was named the Northeast District Division I Coach of the Year for the second year in a row.
The following athletes earned All-American honors:
• Ross Palazzo, state champion in the 200-yard individual medley and 100 breaststroke
• Alex Obendorf, second in the state in diving
• Doni Moffa, Palazzo, Brendon Mulcahey and Ryan Hutcheson, 200 medley relay, sixth
• Palazzo, Hutcheson, Peyton Brown and Mulcahey, 200 freestyle relay, eighth (consideration)
• Hutcheson and Alex McQuillen, academic
Also qualifying for the state meet were Hutcheson, who placed 15th in the 500 freestyle and relay swimmers Moffa, Cole Clampffer, Brown and Mulcahey.
The following athletes earned All-Ohio honors:
• Obendorf, diving
• Palazzo, 200 IM and 100 breaststroke
• Hutcheson, 500 freestyle
• 200 medley relay: Moffa, Palazzo, Mulcahey and Hutcheson
• 200 freestyle relay: Palazzo, Hutcheson, Brown, Clampffer and Mulcahey
Palazzo was named the Valley Division Swimmer of the Year and Obendorf was named the Valley Division Diver of the Year.
Also earning All-NOC Valley Division recognition were the 200 medley relay of Moffa, Palazzo, Mulcahey and Hutcheson, Moffa in the 200 IM and Hutcheson in the 500 freestyle. Brown and Clampffer received honorable mention.
The following school records were broken during the 2012-13 season:
• 200-yard medley relay: Moffa, Palazzo, Mulcahey and Hutcheson, 1 minute, 34.82 seconds
• Diving (six): Obendorf, 331 points
• 100-yard breaststroke: Palazzo, 54.99
• 200-yard IM: Palazzo, 1:48.49
• 500-yard freestyle: Hutcheson, 4:38.25
• 200-meter medley relay: Brown, Palazzo, Mulcahey and Hutcheson, 1:49.64
• 200-meter IM: Palazzo, 2:06.13
• 100-meter breaststroke: Palazzo, 1:04.12
Hudson Scholar Athletes are Adam Ambroziak, Daniel Berkley, Brown, Clampffer, Andrew Crane, Brendan Dagley, Alex Faiman, Brian Holcomb, Hutcheson, Ryan Johnson, Alexander McQuillen, Patrick McQuillen, Moffa, Tanner Nelson, Palazzo, Nicholas Schmitt and Peter Wiley.
All-NOC Academic performers included Ambroziak, Brown, Gabriel Casimiro, Clampffer, Connor Coburn, Crane, Faiman, Keegan Goeke, Hutcheson, Johnson, Alexander McQuillen, Nelson, Palazzo, Schmitt and Wiley.
Palazzo was named the team's Most Valuable Swimmer and Obendorf was named the team's Most Valuable Diver. Other team awards are as follows:
