The Hudson ice hockey team's stay in the Baron Cup turned out to be short-lived.
The Explorers lost a convincing 7-1 decision to Parma Heights Holy Name in the opening round of the Baron Cup Feb. 7 at Brooklyn Ice Arena.
Junior forward Bo Lori scored the lone goal for Hudson and Explorers' senior goaltender Grayson Kotseos finished with 32 saves. Lori took advantage of a short-handed opportunity in the second period.
"Holy Name was able to take advantage of every Explorer mistake on their route to victory," Hudson first-year head coach Bobby Lyle said.
Although the Explorers were eliminated from Baron Cup play, three Hudson (15-13-2) players were honored prior to the Feb. 10 championship game. They were selected from all 12 Red Division teams.
Lori and junior defenseman Zach Thibault earned second-team honors and Kotseos was named to the third team.
Sixth-seeded Hudson is scheduled to play the Twinsburg-Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy winner in the second round of the Kent Division I district tournament Feb. 16 at Kent State University. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
