Girls bowlers beat Mayfield

The host Hudson girls bowling team improved to 3-11 on the season after posting a 1,553-1,431 victory over Mayfield Jan. 29 at Sto-Kent Family Entertainment.

Geneva Liljestrand led the Lady Explorers with scores of 118 and 153, respectively. Rounding out the top three for Hudson were Angela Piazza (126-134) and Elaina Arsham (105-108).

The boys fell to 3-12 on the season after losing a 2,272-2,067 decision to Mayfield.

Mike Rybak led the Explorers with scores of 161 and 208. Also bowling two games for Hudson were Donny Campbell (190-174) and Taylor Turrin (139-188).

The junior varsity boys posted a 2,029-1,609 win. Logan Booth (187-159) and Donny Geisler (173-149) led the Explorers.

The girls were scheduled to participate in the Northeast Ohio Conference Tournament Feb. 2 at Freeway Mentor Lanes. Results were not available at press time.

All three teams are scheduled to visit Brush Feb. 4 at 4:15 p.m.

WRA wrestlers win

The Western Reserve Academy wrestling team earned a 48-27 victory over Canton Central Catholic Jan. 30 on the road.

The following Pioneers earned pins: Colt Roe at 160 pounds (58 seconds); Sam Ennis at 138 (2:35); John Waldon at heavyweight (1:27); and Nick Farrell at 126 (1:44).

Also earning wins for Reserve were Robert Head (182), Bob Wen (152) and TJ Bobinsky (220). Ricky Mayer earned a pin in 57 seconds at 138 pounds and Billy Walsh won a 4-1 decision at 120 pounds for the junior varsity team.

Hockey team triumphs

The host Western Reserve Academy ice hockey team earned a 10-8 victory over Lyndhurst Brush Jan. 29 at Kent State University Ice Arena.

Rob Markwell had six goals and Til Bethge had two goals for the Pioneers. Davis Johnson and Otto Bohan each scored once for Reserve, which got 29 saves from goaltender Max Fausnight.
