Scores: Hudson boys basketball team holds off Highland

The Hudson boys basketball team improved to 11-4 on the season with a 37-33 victory over Highland Jan. 29 in Medina.

The Hornets held the ball for a long time on offense and threw off the Explorers with their triangle-and-two defense.

Mitch Guadagni led Hudson with 11 points and Kevin Zullo knocked down a trio of three-pointers for his nine points.

Jordan Frederick led Highland with nine points.

HOCKEY SQUAD EDGES CVCA

The host Hudson ice hockey team improved to 14-11-2 after posting a 7-5 victory over Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy Jan. 29 at Kent State University Ice Arena.

Bo Lori scored two of his three goals in the first period to give the Explorers a 4-1 lead.

Lori also had an assist. The Royals scored three unanswered goals in the second period to tie the game.

Hudson put it away in the third period.

Connor Ganley and Matt Murphy also had a goal and an assist for the Explorers. Chris Warfield and Anthony Giaimo each scored once for Hudson.

John Calabro had three assists and Cole Mackay had two assists for the Explorers. Mikey Gaffney and Brent Zubal each had one assist for Hudson.

Explorers goaltender Austin Ganley made 23 saves.

GIRLS BOWLERS BEAT MAYFIELD

The host Hudson girls bowling team improved to 3-11 on the season after posting a 1,553-1,431 victory over Mayfield Jan. 29 at Sto-Kent Family Entertainment.

Geneva Liljestrand led the Lady Explorers with scores of 118 and 153, respectively. Rounding out the top three for Hudson were Angela Piazza (126-134) and Elaina Arsham (105-108).

The boys fell to 3-12 on the season after losing a 2,272-2,067 decision to Mayfield.

Mike Rybak led the Explorers with scores of 161 and 208. Also bowling two games for Hudson were Donny Campbell (190-174) and Taylor Turrin (139-188).

The junior varsity boys posted a 2,029-1,609 win.

Logan Booth (187-159) and Donny Geisler (173-149) led the Explorers.

WRA HOCKEY SQUAD WINS SHOOTOUT AGAINST BRUSH

The host Western Reserve Academy ice hockey team earned a 10-8 victory over Lyndhurst Brush Jan. 29 at Kent State University Ice Arena.

Rob Markwell had six goals and Til Bethge had two goals for the Pioneers. Davis Johnson and Otto Bohan each scored once for Reserve, which got 29 saves from goaltender Max Fausnight.

WRA BOYS SWIMMERS AND DIVERS DEFEAT TWINSBURG

The host Western Reserve Academy boys swimming and diving team earned a 109-77 victory over Twinsburg Jan. 29.

The girls lost a 107-78 decision.
