The Hudson girls basketball team fell to 5-2 on the season and 2-1 in the Northeast Ohio Conference Valley Division after losing a convincing 68-48 decision to defending two-time Division I state champion Twinsburg Dec. 19 at Hudson High School's Ray "Buck" Hyser Gymnasium.
The Lady Tigers (8-0, 4-0) jumped out to an 11-2 advantage and led from start to finish. At one point, Twinsburg had a 51-23 lead midway through the third quarter.
Senior guard Ashley Morrissette did it all for the Lady Tigers.
She had 14 of her 26 points in the fourth quarter and knocked down six of Twinsburg's eight three-pointers. She drained a deep three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Lady Tigers a 33-22 lead at halftime and knocked down a long two-pointer off the dribble as time expired in the third quarter.
Brooke Smith added 18 points and Baleigh Reid had 11 points for Twinsburg.
Hannah Boesinger led the Lady Explorers with 20 points and Jackie Ulmer added 13 points.
BOYS BOWLERS BEAT TWINSBURG
The host Hudson boys bowling team won its second consecutive match after posting a 2,247-2,021 victory over Northeast Ohio Conference rival Twinsburg Dec. 19 at Sto-Kent Family Entertainment in Stow.
Donny Campbell led the Explorers with scores of 198 and 203, respectively.
Also faring well for Hudson (3-6) were Mike Rybak (199-194) and Philip Rust (164-190).
The girls team, which only had three varsity players, lost 2,164-1,145.
Angela Piazza (167-174) and Autumn Stanonik (122-120) led the Lady Explorers (1-6, 1-6).
The junior varsity boys team posted a 1,726-1,255 win.
Hunter McCullough (199-125) and Derek Moran (150-161) led Hudson.
