The Explorers (5-3) killed off two five-on-three power plays and allowed just 19 Strongsville shots.
"The defensive pairing of Brendan Nenni and Matt Murphy continued their strong play and Nenni earned the game puck for those efforts," Hudson first-year head coach Bobby Lyle said.
Hudson improved to 1-1 in the Red North East Division with the win over Mentor.
Slane, who earned the game puck, had two goals and Lori had one goal and two assists. Calabro had one goal and one assist.
Brent Zubal, Harry Harr and Connor Ganley each scored once and Chris Warfield and Brady Edwards each had two assists. Giaimo, Zach Thibault and Jack Braun also had one assist apiece for the Explorers. Kotseos made 22 saves.
Hudson took control with four goals in the first period.
"By the end of the game, the team saw a goal and production from all four lines, which is not an easy task," Lyle said.
The Explorers' junior varsity team lost a 3-2 overtime decision to Walsh Jesuit Dec. 8.
"The JV squad played a very entertaining and thrilling matchup," Lyle said. "Down 2-1 with a minute to play, sophomore Jack Verser was able to force overtime after scoring on a penalty shot. Despite the loss, the young Explorers showed vast improvement from the beginning of the year."
The varsity team is set to visit Mentor Lake Catholic Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. Hudson is scheduled to host Kent Roosevelt Dec. 14 and Parma Padua Franciscan Dec. 15. Both games are set to begin at 8 p.m.
