Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro was recognized at the Girl Scouts of North East Ohio Women of Distinction Awards Luncheon as a 2017 Women of Distinction Honoree May 19.

Shapiro was selected for the award as a result of her dedicated record of supporting opportunities for women and girls and her remarkable impact on the Summit County community. The awards luncheon also raised funds for Girl Scouts programming and supplies along with scholarships and financial aid.

“As the first female Executive of Summit County, I am honored to receive this award and to carry the torch for young women who strive to make a difference in this world,” Shapiro said. “When women are in leadership positions, it is vital they reach out to younger generations and help them realize their goals and support their ambitions. The Girl Scouts organization has always been a leader in this mission. I congratulate all of the honorees and participants in today’s event.”

Founded in 1912, the Girl Scouts organization works toward empowering young women to seek great futures, grow confidence and courage, become leaders, and positively change society by making a difference.
