Some of Acme Fresh Market's grocery store workers are eligible to accept a buyout offer, according to a company spokesperson.
The Akron-based grocery chain is offering buyouts to two classifications of workers: "checker clerk cashiers" and "deli clerks" at all of its 15 stores, said Katie Swartz, Acme's director of marketing. Swartz said the buyout offer is not related to layoffs that took place a year ago.
Acme has stores in Cuyahoga Falls at 2630 Bailey Road and 2226 State Road.
A new store is being built at the State Road site. Nearby, there are also Acme stores at 4445 Kent Road in Stow, 116 W. Streetsboro St. in Hudson and 600 South Ave. in Tallmadge.
Swartz said she did not have figures on the number of employees who are eligible for the buyout at the Stow, Hudson and Tallmadge stores.
"This is an opportunity for our longtime associates," she said. "It is being done in response to requests made by associates thinking about retiring." She said any employee in the two classifications is eligible for the buyout.
Terms of the buyout are a $20,000 separation payment and the employees' 2013 vacation and personal days if the employee leaves before March 1. Swartz said a memo for the buyout was posted the week of Feb. 4 next to time clocks at all locations.
A response from United Food and Commercial Workers Local 880, the union representing hourly employees at Acme, was not received at press time.
