Our downtown merchants and restaurants are in need of your support.
There are more barrels and construction vehicles on Main Street than paying customers. Many other customers and I, as well as the merchants, were under the impression that the city was going to preserve and protect the businesses by having the construction crews work at night. In the last three weeks, the downtown construction has been intense and very dangerous with narrow driving lanes, sudden turns and visiting construction vehicles in a sea of orange barrels.
The city should be doing more to help these entrepreneurs survive. Customers are getting frustrated navigating the barrels and locating merchants and safe, convenient parking. It takes days to earn a customer but only minutes to lose them. In addition, once a merchant has a bad month or two, it is very hard to recover financially.
So in closing, come fight the barrels, have dinner and shop in our beautiful downtown.
