Letter: Making taxes more meaningful

Published: March 9, 2014 12:00 AM

Nobody likes doing their taxes, but I thought I would share something important and historic that Hudson residents can do to make doing taxes a bit more meaningful this year. For the past couple of years, Ohioans who get a refund from the state have had the option of donating a portion of that refund to the Ohio Historical Society to support history projects in local communities that invest in Ohio's economy. Let me explain.

Each donation -- on average, a little more than $8 -- goes directly to fund a competitive matching grants program for history-related projects across the state. Last year, more than $110,000 in grants were matched by local organizations across the state, and this year Destination Hudson/Visitor Center will be among the organizations that will apply for one of these grants. I can't say enough good things about the Ohio Historical Society's new History Fund grant program. I hope you get a refund on your state taxes this year, and if you do, I encourage you to think about the importance of Ohio (and Hudson) history. It is worthy of your support!
