The press in Columbus is reporting that second term state representative Kristina Daily Roegner (R-Hudson) is currently vying for the leadership in the Ohio House.
This is significant, and encouraging.
I say encouraging because I feel what is holding Ohio back economically perhaps more than anything else is the status quo.
And what is the status quo?
It is the way things presently exist. The status quo is quite formidable because it is propped up by special interest groups from every angle. The status quo is not particularly interested in the future, and it ignores changes in the world that have made it obsolete in some areas. In all phases of human activity, the status quo gives knee-jerk resistance to reform regardless of how needed or productive that reform might be. A great example of this is the mediocre, but pricey, America public K-12 education system. There, the status quo, championed by the teachers' unions and education industry, is what is holding back the desperately needed improvement in our schools.
This is where Roegner's leadership comes in. One of this woman's defining characteristic is her willingness to buck the status quo for the sake of a better future. Not many people are up to such a task. We are fortunate that our state representative is. Wish her luck in Columbus.
