I was so saddened
to read about the young man who was bullied at school. I admire him for sharing his story with all of us. He certainly has more guts than those who chose to target him for their abuse. As a retired middle school teacher, I am aware of the damage that bullying can cause. It is so vital to make a trusted and concerned adult aware of these situations so that they can be addressed. My question is, where are the parents of these thoughtless young people? It begins in the home. Teaching tolerance and respect for others should be high on the list of a parent's job description. Explaining bullying away by saying, "Oh, they are just kids," isn't acceptable. Please demand a higher standard of respect, watch your child's interaction with others. Be aware. Be a role model. "I AM A BULLY." Gee, if they are so proud of this attribute, perhaps the bullies should have T-shirts made up so that others will have a heads-up.
It's not OK. I hope that we will all try to end this behavior.
