Laurel Robinson

Mrs. Robinson was born in Toronto, Ohio, on January 15, 1935, to Lawrence and Dorothy Gilcrest who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother Charlie.

She was a student at Kent State University when she met Robert H. Robinson, whom she married and spent 55 years with until his passing in 2010. They made their home in Hudson where they raised their family. They also enjoyed spending time at their farm on the Ohio River where she tended a large garden and canned prodigious quantities of delicious jams and jellies, tomatoes and her famous peppers.

She is survived by her children Marcia (Dan) Williamson of Sugar Land, Texas, Charlie (Susan) and Rob (Kerry) of Hudson and Laurie (Chris) Dickinson of Cuyahoga Falls; her grandchildren Katie (Peter) Longoria, Julie (Joe) Edwards, Mark Williamson, Emily (Matt) Fabian, William Robinson, Sarah Dickinson, Patrick Dickinson, Robert 'Matt' Robinson, Jonathan 'Jack' Robinson and Kelly Robinson; and great grandchildren Elena, Mia and Christian Longoria, Evelyn and Louis Fabian and Daniel and Jeremiah Edwards. She also is survived by her brother, Roger (Linda) Gilcrest and sister, Norma Adams; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Robinson enjoyed playing bridge and attained Life Master Status. She was an avid reader and regular watcher of Jeopardy. She never backed down from a challenge at Scrabble or Backgammon or any game that challenged her broad range of knowledge.

Following her wishes, cremation has taken place. A service was scheduled Aug. 2 at 11 a.m. at Christ Church Episcopal, 21 Aurora St. Hudson with Rev. Larry Minter officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to The Matamoras Library Association, PO Box 279, New Matamoras, OH 45767. The family would also like to thank the staff at The Crown Center at Laurel Lake for the care and assistance they provided to Mrs. Robinson.
