Edward James Ahern, 88, of Hudson, died July 21, 2014.
He was the beloved husband of 64 years of Barbara (nee McKee), loving father of James R. (Jan), Edward J., Jr., Michael G. (Julia) Capt. USN Ret., and G. Thomas (Candace), dear grandfather of Brittny Ahern (Scott) Strubbe, James R. (Julie) Ahern, Jr., Jessica Ahern (Matt) Kirschling, Lisa (Tim) Clay, Edward J. (Sami) Ahern III, Matthew Ahern, Daniel Ahern, Kelsey Ahern, Ryan Ahern and Tess Ahern, great-grandfather of Ireland and Thomas J. Strubbe, Emily, Ashley, Katie and Samantha Ahern Taylor, Hayley and Tim Clay; and brother of the late Eldred Ahern Olson, Phyllis Ahern Walsh and Therese Ahern Cummins.
Mr. Ahern graduated from the Cheshire Academy in Cheshire, Connecticut in 1944. He attended Georgetown University and graduated from Fairfield University in Fairfield Connecticut. in 1951 with a bachelor of science degree. Mr. Ahern worked for GE and retired from J & L Steel. Mr. Ahern served his country in the U.S. Navy, was a member of St. Andrews Golf Club, coached Little League and was a member of the Optomist Club in Overland Park, Kansas, The O'Bannon Creek Golf Club in Cincinnati, Sea Pines Country Club and Holy Family Catholic Church in Hilton Head, South Carolina. He also loved golf, sailing, hockey and fishing. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Crossroads Hospice 3743 Boettler Oaks Dr. Suite E, Green, OH 44685 or the Alzheimer's Association 70 W. Streetsboro St. Suite 201 Hudson, OH 44236. Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled for July 26, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church 340 N. Main St. Hudson. Friends were received July 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Johnson-Romito Funeral Home in Hudson.
