Mary Burrell Meldrum, 87, a resident of Hudson for 65 years, died Friday, June 27, 2014, at Laurel Lake Crown Center.
Mrs. Meldrum was born July 22, 1926, in Bennington, Vermont, the daughter of John and Sara Burrell, and grew up in Garden City, Long Island, New York. She attended Bennington College, and during her senior year, she met Andrew Meldrum of Cleveland, Ohio. They married and moved to Hudson in 1949. They raised three sons in their home on Bicknell Drive.
Mrs. Meldrum was known for her strongly-held opinions and a sharp sense of humor. She was active in Hudson's civic and social life. She was a member of many organizations, including the League of Women Voters, the Women's Club, Blossom Music Center Women's Committee, Hudson Heritage Association and the Questers. Most recently she was a board member of Case-Barlow Farm. She was a well-known member of the Hudson Tennis Club and played bridge.
Mrs. Meldrum was a resident of Laurel Lake since 2008 where she enjoyed being in close touch with many of her lifelong friends. In her last years she benefitted from the excellent care of the staff at Laurel Lake's Crown Center and Crossroads Hospice.
A memorial service will be at Laurel Lake's Community Room Thursday, July 3 at 1 p.m.
Mary is survived by her sons Andrew, Jr. and his wife Dolores Cortes, Rob and his wife Kelly, John and his wife Isabelle Meldrum-Kuhn, and three grandchildren Arthur, Jean-Jacques, and Marielle.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to Laurel Lake Foundation and Crossroads Hospice.
