Ethel Holford, 103, died in her sleep April 12, 2014. She was under hospice care at the Stow Glen Health Care facility in Stow.
Mrs. Holford was born in Pennsylvania to Marjorie and Rex Kershner Nov. 22, 1910, moving later to Akron where she grew up. After graduating from East High School in 1929, she worked at Goodyear Tire in office services and sales accounting until 1939 when she married Stuart Holford and moved to Cleveland.
In 1946 she and her family moved to Hudson where she made many lifelong friends. In 1955 they relocated briefly to Downers Grove, Ill. then to Cleveland, before moving to Macedonia in 1958. While living in Macedonia, she worked at Western Reserve Telephone Company in Hudson. In 1973 she and her husband retired to Horseshoe Bend, Ark., where they lived for 30 years. During her time in Arkansas she and her husband made many new friends and helped establish St. Steven's Episcopal Church. In 2003 Mrs. Holford returned to Hudson, living with her son and daughter-in-law until 2012.
For many years she was a member of the Eastern Star and enjoyed walking, lunching with friends, gardening, knitting and spoiling her great grandchildren and poodle, Pepper.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Edna Rae Morris, husband Stuart, and son Jeff. She leaves behind her son Russell (Barbara), grandson Andrew (Lesa), granddaughter Amy (Shawn) Stevens, and four great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at a later date at St. Steven's Episcopal Church in Horseshoe Bend, Ark.
