Former Hudson resident and world class hurdler Wally Monahan, 81, died Jan. 19, 2014 in Madison.
Mr. Monahan was a world class hurdler for the University of Pittsburgh where he held the record in the 120-yard hurdles for more than 25 years. He also had the world's fastest time for that event in 1954. He was a pilot in the U.S. Air Force and spent his professional career selling Caterpillar tractors throughout Lake and Ashtabula counties.
He leaves his wife of 31 years, Christel Monahan, and his children, Carolyn (Bill) Rigo, Joe (Debbie) Monahan, Marney (Ed) Gorman, Cassie (Frank) Fatica, Trixie (John) Cleminshaw, Raquel (Rich) Russell, and numerous grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Monahan; son-in-law, Ed Gorman; and granddaughter, Brynn Monahan.
Services will be at Immaculate Conception Church in Madison on Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lucy and Quinn Gorman Education Trust, c/o Jerry Kysela, 1660 W. Second St., Suite 650, Cleveland, Ohio 44113.
