Gretchen Vera Garnett Soprano soloist and voice teacher

Gretchen Vera Garnett, nee Nobis, of Hudson, died Dec. 15, 2013. She was 99.

She was the wife of the late Howard A. Garnett and mother of William (Gina) Garnett of Cincinnati. She was the sister of the late Charles G. Nobis and Nora K. Stine.

Mrs. Garnett was born Dec. 16, 1913, in Toronto, Canada, to Harry M. and Mary Jane (nee Board Nobis). She graduated from Shaw High School in East Cleveland in 1932 and Western Reserve University in 1936 with a bachelor's degree in music education. She was a soprano soloist and voice teacher, singing in various church, festival and concert venues in Northeast Ohio from 1934 to 1968; teaching with Cleveland Music School Settlement, from 1945 to 1952 and Case Western Reserve University from 1942 to 1975, retiring as assistant professor emeritus of music.
