Clara Hancock Johnson, a homemaker and retired bookkeeper, who had once served as treasurer of the town of Gretna, Va., died Nov. 28, 2013, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was 90.
Clara was born in Halifax County, Va. on Aug. 26, 1923, and was the daughter of the late John E. and Mollie B. Hancock. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Raymond B. Johnson, a son, Dr. Johnny R. Johnson, five sisters, and two brothers.
She is survived by her children, Amy J. Pendergrass and her husband Keith of Hudson, Samuel E. Johnson and his wife Donna of Lynchburg, Va.; and Dr. Barry W. Johnson and his wife Susan of Charlottesville, Va.
Her survivors also include her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Pamela J. Fields and her son Jay; Ashby Johnson, her fiancé Germaine, and son Payton; Alan Pendergrass, his wife Kelly, son William and daughter Emily; Rachel Sack, her husband Dan and daughters Caroline and Samantha; Troy Pendergrass; and a step-grandchild, Jason Dalton, his wife Melissa, son Jacob and daughter Isabelle.
Funeral services were Dec. 2 at Greenfield Baptist Church, 384 Fairmont Road, Gretna, where Mrs. Johnson had been a life time member and former Sunday school teacher. Burial was in the church cemetery.
