Norbert Alfred Olzmann of Hudson died Oct. 28, 2013.
Mr. Olzmann was preceded in death by his loving parents, Arthur and Irmgard (Jebing) Olzmann, and his beloved son, Kyle Olzmann.
He is survived by his dear wife, Marilyn Olzmann; his brother, Kurt Olzmann (Mary Ann); his nephews and niece, Matthew, James, and Amy Olzmann; his step-daughters, Jaime RidlerMadachik (John) and Kelly Ridler McGreal; and his grandchildren, Chloe McGreal, Lily McGreal, and Tessa Madachik.
Mr. Olzmann was born Feb. 28, 1944, and raised in Michigan. His parents taught him the value of hard work, which he affectionately attributed to their German heritage. He studied at Purdue University and later at the University of Michigan where he earned a bachelor's degree and master's degree in Aerospace Engineering. During his career as an aerospace engineer for the U. S. Space Program, he was involved in history-making endeavors such as the Apollo missions. He later worked as an aeronautical engineer, specializing in military aircraft software validation.
Mr. Olzmann was a lifelong swimmer who won All-American Honors for two years in the U.S. Masters Swimming Program and finished top 10 in the Masters Nationals 16 times. He had an enduring fondness for the outdoors, where he often engaged in activities he loved -- biking, camping and canoeing. He enjoyed playing his violin with the Stow Symphony Orchestra and willingly volunteered to share his gift of music at weddings, funerals, and church services.
Beyond his achievements and his passions, Mr. Olzmann will be remembered for his resilience, his wonderful sense of humor, his loving gratitude and his abundance of hugs.
The memorial service was Nov. 2 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Hudson. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested memorial contributions in Norbert's name to the Stow Symphony Orchestra, P.O. Box 1495, Stow, Ohio 44224.
