Gayle Ann (McQuilkin) Dieckman, 74, a resident of Hudson and member of Christ Church Episcopal since 1965 died unexpectedly August 26, 2013.
Born on June 14, 1939 and raised in Chicago, Mrs. Dieckman attended Westmount High School in Montreal, Quebec and graduated from the University of Vermont in 1961 with a bachelor's degree. In 1964 she married and subsequently moved to Hudson where she lovingly raised three children who miss her dearly.
While an active member of the Episcopal Church Women, Mrs. Dieckman was queen of the annual rummage sale, keeper of the memorial garden, and maker of cinnamon jelly. Her sense of humor, love of gardening, expertise in crossword puzzles, and attention to detail was appreciated by all.
Her life presented many challenges that she was lucky to survive. Without complaint and with a quiet sense of strength, She overcame a near fatal automobile accident, breast cancer, and brain aneurysm preferring to focus on her service to others rather than herself.
She is survived by her daughters Karen (Eric) Clauburg of Wall Township, N.J. and Catherine Dieckman of Columbus; son Darryl Dieckman of San Carlos, Calif; grandchildren Eric, Maci and Kellen Clauburg; sister Joyce Dawson of Essex Junction, Vt.; nephews Greg and Chris and niece Lorei Dawson; and former husband, Dwight Dieckman. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Lucille McQuilkin, and sister Audrey.
A memorial service will be Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. at Christ Church Episcopal, 21 Aurora Street, Hudson. In lieu of flowers, a gift in her memory may be made to Christ Church Episcopal - Memorial Garden.
