Doris E. (Tighe) Brown - Taught at Mother of Sorrows School in Ashtabula

Doris E. (Tighe) Brown, 96, of Hudson, died Jan. 2, 2013.

She was born on Aug. 7, 1916, in Buffalo, N.Y., the daughter of the late Thomas A. and Lillian (Fisher) Tighe. She married Bernard M. Brown in Buffalo in 1940, where they lived until moving to Ashtabula in 1956. They were parishioners at Ashtabula St. Joseph Church. With a Youngstown diocesan scholarship, Mrs. Brown studied at Kent State University Extension in Ashtabula, completing her BSE with honors at Lake Erie College in Painseville. She taught at Mother of Sorrows School in Ashtabula from 1963 until retiring in 1979, when she and her husband moved to Leisure World in Mesa, Ariz. She returned to Ohio in 2006, living at Laurel Lake Retirement Community in Hudson until her death.

Mrs. Brown was preceded by the death of her husband in 1998, and her grandson, Robert Brown, in 1988. She is survived by daughters, Maureen Tighe-Brown and Molly Brown (Thomas) Cuddy; sons, Peter A. Brown and Mark M. (Kathleen) Brown of California; grandchildren, Mark, Brooke, Kristin, Kevin, Aaron and Jordan; and great-grandchildren, Evan, Rileigh, Madeline, Chase and Hudson.

A memorial service will be Feb. 1 at 2 p.m. at Laurel Lake Retirement Community in Hudson.
