The host Hudson volleyball team finished 1-1 Aug. 28 at Ray “Buck” Hyser Gymnasium.

The Lady Explorers lost a tough 25-15, 25-19 decision to Jackson and earned a hard-fought 25-18, 23-25, 25-16 victory against Medina Highland.

Against Jackson, Makenzie Wickert led Hudson with five kills and seven digs and Erin Dunlap dished out 12 assists.

“In the first game, we spotted them a bunch of points to start — first-game jitters, I think,” Lady Explorers head coach Josh Stewart said. “After we settled down, we played with them pretty competitively.

“We both have young teams. I’d like to see us meet at the end of the season to see how we’ve both progressed.”

Binger led Hudson with 15 kills, eight digs and two blocks against Highland. Dunlap had 20 assists.

“We played fairly well, but we will need to clean things up for sure over the next several weeks,” Stewart said. “The game-two loss was partially my doing. I entered the wrong lineup which threw us off just enough to give up some extra points that cost us the game in the end.”

The Lady Explorers were scheduled to visit Northeast Ohio Conference rival Stow-Munroe Falls Aug. 31. Results were not available at press time.

They are set to compete at the Cloverleaf Invitational Tournament Sept. 4 in Lodi. The first match is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.
