Girls distance program wins Revere Invitational

The Hudson girls cross country team won the 17-team Revere Invitational Aug. 28 at Howe Meadow Park in Peninsula.

The Lady Explorers finished with 51 points and Strongsville (81) and Medina (104) finished second and third, respectively.

North Royalton’s Hannah Neczypor placed first out of 149 runners with a time of 17 minutes, 57.94 seconds. Caroline Sauers led Hudson with a third-place time of 18:56.06.

“Caroline did incredible for this early in the season,” Lady Explorers head coach Ed Hoffmeier said.

Also finishing in the top 10 for Hudson were Marissa Sinko (ninth, 19:52.02) and Madi Hartline (10th, 19:57.4).

“Marissa has worked really hard and her result shows it,” Hoffmeier said. “Madi has been fighting a stomach problem and I think we will see her fly in the coming races.”

Rounding out the Lady Explorers’ top seven were Jillian Saccogna (14th, 20:06.89), Rachel Raykov (16th, 20:12) and Kate McGregor (19th, 20:22.61).

Also competing for Hudson were Haley Turner (28th, 20:50.11), Katie Graf (40th, 21:10.37), Maureen Moffitt (41st, 21:10.94) and Sarah Miles (61st, 21:50.58).

“This was a great test to see where we are,” Hoffmeier said.

Hudson finished second with 42 points in the 13-team open race. Strongsville won the competition with 28 points.

Casey Watson placed first out of 181 runners (21:16.93). Hollie Swidarski wasn’t far behind in fifth (22:01.72).

The following Lady Explorers finished in the top 14: Emily Stuursma (11th, 22:35.51), Michelle Lawson (12th, 22:48.3), Natalie Stiles (13th, 22:49.66) and Evie Throne (14th, 22:49.91).

Hudson is scheduled to compete in the Wooster Invitational Sept. 11 at 9 a.m.
