The 20th Annual A Most Excellent Race, benefiting the Achievement Centers for Children's Camp Cheerful, will take place on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Beaumont School in Cleveland Heights. Offering a flat, shaded course which progresses through the historic residential area of Cleveland Heights, A Most Excellent Race is managed by Hermes Sports and Events and is a sanctioned event of their Road Race Series.
The kids of Camp Cheerful will kick off the event at 8:30 a.m. with the crowd-favorite "Camp Cheerful Classic" a spirited short-distance race. At 9 a.m. runners, racers and walkers will start off in one of three divisions: 5K Run, 10K Run, and the 5K Fun Walk. The top overall male and female winners of the timed 5K/10K Runs will receive awards, as well as the top three male and female 5K/10K finishers in each age division. Additional awards will be given to individual walkers and teams who generate the most financial support for Camp Cheerful.
Participants may pre-register for A Most Excellent Race for a reduced entry fee of $20 before June 21 or register on-site prior to the race from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. for $25. T-shirts will be given to the first 800 participants and refreshments will be provided at the event. All proceeds from A Most Excellent Race benefit the Achievement Centers for Children's Camp Cheerful, situated on 52 acres in the Cleveland Metroparks' Mill Stream Run Reservation in Strongsville. Founded over 60 years ago, Camp Cheerful offers children and young adults of all abilities positive experiences in a variety of traditional day and residential camping programs. Children at camp can participate in swimming, canoeing, fishing, arts and crafts, therapeutic horseback riding and other special activities " all geared to their unique strengths and challenges.
The Achievement Centers for Children is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to work with children with disabilities and their families to strengthen abilities and create opportunities for lifelong achievement in society.
