Hoops team places second

Silent Treatment was the runner-up in the Hudson Community Education and Recreation Men’s Fast Break Basketball League.

Silent Treatment, which finished 8-2, lost a 58-40 decision to Great Lakes Textiles Feb. 22.

Team members are Lucas Jackson, Justin “June” Hagedorn, Jon Boal, Jim Dochat, Matt Hagedorn and Chris Cunert.

 

Burke fares well

Hudson graduate David Burke, a senior on the Ohio Wesleyan (Delaware) University men’s track and field team, won Athlete-of-the-Meet honors in leading Ohio Wesleyan to the North Coast Athletic Conference title at the NCAC championship meet recently in Granville.

Burke was named Field Event Performer of the Year. He won the triple jump with an effort of 46 feet, 10.75 inches, surpassing the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III championship meet, which is scheduled for March 12 and 13 at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. Burke also won all-conference honors with a third-place finish in the pentathlon and added fourth-place finishes in the high jump and the long jump.

 

Duo honored

Hudson senior Zack Barley recently was selected to receive one of the Northeastern Ohio Chapter of the National Football Foundation’s 2010 Scholar-Athlete Awards.

The Ohio State University head football coach Jim Tressel will present the awards.

Hudson assistant football coach Jeff Brown has been selected as the recipient of the 2010 Ron Stoops Assistant High School Coach of the Year Award. Brown coached his 300th game at Hudson last season has been a mainstay with the program under four head coaches.

 

CVCA loses

The Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy boys basketball team lost a 59-51 decision to Kirtland March 5 in Painesville.

Hudson resident Alex Mosteller scored nine points for CVCA and Hudson resident T.J. Heginbotham added seven points. Greg Kutchin, also of Hudson, scored one point for CVCA.
