JUNGLE JAMMarch 5, 2010
SECOND ANNUAL JUNGLE JAM AT HOUSE OF BLUES TO BENEFIT BONE MARROW DISEASE The hunt for a cure for bone marrow disease continues this year as Make It Happen 4 BMD (bone marrow disease) hosts their second annual Jungle Jam Benefit. Make It Happen 4 BMD was started by Sherri and Jeffrey Kitzberger in response to the limited amount of funding and research for certain blood and bone marrow diseases. The Kitzberger's daughter, Annalyse, was diagnosed with two life-threatening bone marrow diseases, Aplastic Anemia and Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria, at the age of five. In honor of Annalyse and her love of zebras, Jungle Jam strives to raise funds solely for bone marrow disease research to "make it happen!" The fun-filled evening includes cocktails, appetizers, a silent auction and lots of music. Guests will have the opportunity to join the National Bone Marrow Registry at the event! All proceeds from the event will be directed to Dr. Jaroslaw Maciejewski, a leading expert on bone marrow disease, from Cleveland Clinic's Taussig Cancer Institute. The first jungle jam event raised $70,000 for Dr. Maciejewski's research team and led to a five-year National Institute of Health (NIH) research grant in the amount of $1.9 million. This year, the event is being held in honor of Mr. Ivan Winfield, a prominent Cleveland businessman who lost his life to Bone Marrow Disease in 2009.
