Save the date for this Mother's Day, May 9, 2010. Hundreds of youth and adults will run for hope to raise awareness for breast cancer patients and their loved ones. They will be participating in "The Race," a charity event started by an inspiring high-school student.

The idea for The Race was inspired by Hunting Valley resident Josh Berns, 17, and his sister Dani Berns, 15, who wanted to make a difference and support friends and family members who were battling breast cancer. After organizing The Race, Josh's own mother, Patti Berns, was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Families and children can participate in The Race while raising money for research and an important cause. Refreshments, entertainment, prizes and children's activities will be part of the day's festivities. Prizes will be awarded to the individual who raises the most money as well as the school/team with the greatest participation.

Families and individuals alike can participate in The Race, in its seventh annual, one-mile walk/run at Legacy Village, 25001 Cedar Road in Lyndhurst. Registration opens at 8 a.m. on May 9, and the race kicks off at 9 a.m.

The cost to participate is $15 a person. To register, visit the official website for The Race at http://www.dotherace.com/Register/. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institute to support breast cancer research. Every participates who registers will receive a free t-shirt. Last year, "The Race" raised more than $135,000.
