The Hudson Varsity Hawks finished off a perfect season by winning the Buckeye Youth Football Conference Super Bowl Nov. 8. The Hawks beat the Green Bulldogs by a score of 33-8 to win the title and finish the season with a 10-0 record. The Hawks dominated the game from start to finish and the outcome was never seriously in doubt. After forcing the Bulldogs to punt on their first possession, the Hawks took over deep in their own territory. On a third-down-and-nine play, tailback Jack Palumbo took a hand-off from quarterback Mitch Guadagni and followed a parade of blockers down the sideline for an 82-yard touchdown. The Hawks never looked back and took a 12-0 lead into halftime as Colten Whited had an electrifying run of 50 yards, again behind strong blocking to reach the end zone. On the first play after halftime, the Hawks took total control as Palumbo took a pitch, cut up field and raced to a 65-yard score. This took the wind out of the Bulldogs’ sails and the game was never in doubt after the play. Hudson finished out the scoring with another TD run from Palumbo and a TD pass from Pat Ford to Kyle Ator. The Bulldogs’ lone score came late in the fourth quarter. The Hawks scored a league-high 230 points during the regular season and the defense allowed only 29 points. The multiple offense was led by Guadagni, who engineered a variety of formations that kept the competition off balance all season. The running backs featured Palumbo, Matthew Rightnour, Whited, Mitch Mettler, Logan Thomas, Christian Owsley, Clay Morrison, Travis Wood and Nickolas Custer. Guadagni was backed up by Ford, Ator and AJ Garson at the quarterback position. Ford and Ator also played receiver in the starting offense as did Garson. The line of scrimmage was controlled all season by Charles Behal, Max Orazen, Dylan Carlson, Jimmy Dorr, Joey Martin, Greg Robinson, David O’Connor, John Marcinkiewicz, Danny Baka, Dominic DeGeronimo, Sam Strebler, Shane Brown Andrew Karpinski, Noah Stupica, Grant Elfers, Jacob McCauley and Collin Spaulding. Backing up Ford and Ator at ends were Jared Jesionek, Collin Baum, Tanner Nelson, Michael Lovano and Jared Hamilton. Rightnour and the rest of the linebackers led the Hawks defense. The line did not give up significant yardage all season and the defensive backfield yielded only two touchdowns through the air. The junior varsity game was not decided until the final minutes when a two-point conversion try by Hudson fell incomplete and Green held on to win by a score of 13-12. The Hawks JV squad finished 6-3-1. Team coaches included Jim Lease, Brian Finkenthal, Martin Haas, John Elfers, Adam Garson, Bob Lovano, Mark Guadagni, Kevin Custer and Mike DeLeo. — From staff reports E-mail: stowsports@recordpub.com Phone: 330-686-3914
