NORA K. STINE Active in philanthropy

Nora K. Stine (nee Nobis), 93, of Hudson died Jan. 15, 2010, at Crown Center at Laurel Lake.

Mrs. Stine was born Jan. 23, 1916, in Toronto, Canada, to Harry M. and Mary Jane (nee Board) Nobis.

She received her bachelor's degree from Baldwin Wallace College in 1938. She had worked as a dietician at Stouffers Restaurant in New York City and a home economics teacher in the Cleveland school system. She was also a food editor for Good Housekeeping Magazine, a homemaker and a volunteer director at Sunny Acres Skilled Nursing Facility. She was a member of the Garfield Memorial Church where she was in the church choir for 30 years, Meals on Wheels in Orange, the Garden Club and the Bloodmobile. She was a world traveler, played golf, enjoyed art and bridge, and was a member of the Alpha XI Delta Sorority.

Her philanthropies included the Berea Children's Home, Baldwin Wallace College, Windermere Methodist Church, the Laurel Lake Foundation and Scholarships to Students. During the cold months, she had a winter residence in Venice, Fla.

Mrs. Stine was preceded in death by her husband, Harrison M. Stine, and son, Craig Stine, and is survived by her brother, Charles G. Nobis, and sister, Gretchen Garnett of Hudson. Memorial contributions may be made to Berea Children's Home or the Laurel Lake Foundation, where a memorial service will take place in the Community Room on Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. Arrangements are being handled by Johnson-Romito Funeral Home.
