Seton Catholic School

The Seton Catholic School community will gather Jan. 20 at 10 a.m. at the Seton Chapel to pray for the people of Haiti.

The U.S. conference of Bishops and Bishop Richard Lennon of the Diocese of Cleveland have asked that collections for the people and church of Haiti be directed to support the efforts of Catholic Relief Services, the official international humanitarian agency of the U.S. Catholic Church.

Catholic Relief Services has committed an initial $5 million to fund relief efforts. Checks can be made to Catholic Relief Services, P.O. Box 17090, Baltimore, MD 21203-7090. In the memo write Haiti Earthquake.

Seton Assistant Principal Sister Helen Weis said the Seton Student Ministers and student council are working on service projects to gather supplies that will be sent once the situation stabilizes.

Hudson Montessori School

Hudson Montessori School has developed a two-part plan to aid victims in Haiti.

Students will raise donations for immediate needs in a project called "Helping Hand for Haiti."

Students will take gloves home to fill with change.

Donations will go to both the American Red Cross and the Montessori School in Port-au-Prince, which was partially destroyed during the earthquake.

"We have had e-mail contact with the Montessori School's director and have offered our help for now and in the future," said Karen Lazar, development director. "The second part of our plan will occur after the Haitian Montessori School is ready to rebuild. At that time, HMS will plan to donate needed student and classroom supplies."

Western Reserve Academy

A group of students at Western Reserve Academy had planned to make a presentation to the school Jan. 20 about the earthquake disaster in Haiti so students can decide how, as a school, they can contribute more directly to the relief effort.
