St Mary's Mens Club Scholarship Winner
The 2009 Reverend Joseph Costello Memorial Scholarship goes to Daniel Samide. Father Costello was the pastor of St Mary's Catholic Church in Hudson for many years. The award is funded by the St Mary's Mens Club's fundraising activities
like their Seafood dinners.
The Men's Club scholarship committee's assigned criteria for the award include personal involvement in one's faith, community service, extracurricular activities, character, leadership and academic achievement. Daniel's personal faith and community service was evident in his volunteer work at Malachi House Hospice and as an altar server. Outside of the classroom, Daniel leadership as a trombonist and Senior Squad Leader of the Hudson High School Band demonstrated character. Named an Advanced Placement Scholar and National Merit Scholar, Daniel's academic performance shines beyond Hudson. In the fall Daniel plans to study biomedical engineering at the University of Notre Dame, South Bend Indiana.
