HCTV 25 - Oct. 19

October 19, 2008

In honor of Children's Mental Health Month in Hudson, the Coalition for Children's Mental Health presents "Thick 'n Thin: Understanding Teen Depression." It tells the story of Katie Morris, a fictional middle school student, who spirals downward into depression and begins to think of suicide. The program illustrates the importance of friendship and also the many symptoms of depression and how treatment can help.

Thick 'n Thin was produced last spring by Dr. Penny Frese of Hudson with students from Miller South School for the Performing Arts in Akron. It is designed for use as part of the middle school health program, Red Flags, and is available to all Ohio middle schools, free of charge, through Mental Health America of Summit County.

The League of Women Voters of Hudson "Candidates and Night 2008" taped last Thursday night will be shown throughout the week.

Two panel discussions, "What do Ohio Voters Want and What Do They Get from the Media?" and "Buying Justice: Money and Ethics of Judicial Campaigning" presented by The League of Women Voters and the Hudson library, will be shown this week.

The Rotary Club of Hudson continues its month of candidates running for office. This week's presentation is of Richard Nero, who is running for the 42nd Ohio House District seat.

The City Club of Cleveland presents two programs: Dr. Madeleine Albright, former U.S. Secretary of State and principal of The Albright Group LLC, and Clark Randt, U.S. ambassador to China.

The Ohio Department of Aging presents a new edition of Finer with Age discussing why it is vital to ask questions of pharmacists. The program also gives information about advance directives and end of life planning.
