Hudson -- The final numbers are in: the damage caused by vandals Sept. 12 and 13 at East Woods and the middle school will cost just over $20,000 to repair.

The damage, which included broken projectors, windows, televisions, computers, accessories and electronics, was originally estimated to be close to $11,000.

However, after reviewing the damage and factoring in the cleanup costs, the cost tallied up to $17,165 at Hudson Middle School and $2,893 at East Woods, according to Sheryl Sheatzley, district communications manager.

According to a police spokesperson, there have been no arrests.

"This is an abnormal situation," said Paul Smith, school district business manager, about the vandalism.

He said the district has had the occasional window broken by a rock, soccer ball or a paint ball shot at a building, but nothing like the damage seen last month.

Police said someone broke a window at the middle school, gained access to the roof and tossed a $300 roof cutting machine to the ground.

The majority of the damage was done at East Woods, police said. Windows were broken and damage, including a broken dry erase board and several smashed televisions and computer monitors, were strewn through five classrooms.

Police said surveillance video from the schools are being reviewed and according to Smith, blood, which police believe is from an injured vandal, was found at the scene.

Smith is asking anyone with any information to call the Hudson Police TIPS Line at 330-342-1820.
