Kids can enjoy
hands-on science
HCER offers area kids in grades two through six the opportunity for hands-on science activities with its Mad Science program. Classes meet from Oct. 14 through Nov. 18. Class subjects include "Bugs!" "Detective Science;" "Earth Works;" "Kitchen Chemistry;" "Mad Science Machines;" and "Walloping Weather."
Learn computer first aid
HCER is offering an opportunity to learn computer first aid and upgrading. Participants will learn how to improve their computer's performance by scanning and defragging. Participants will take apart old computers and put them back together. "Computer First Aid and Upgrading" meets Oct. 14 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Hudson High School.
Beginning artists can learn to draw
HCER is offering a "Learn To Draw" class for beginner to intermediate artists from teens through senior citizens. Students will learn the difference between drawing and sketching as well as the principles of composition, line, valve, shading and perspective. Instructor Paul Adams asks that students bring a 16-by-20-inch sketch pad, HB and 3B pencils, and kneaded eraser. Classes meet for six Tuesdays from Oct. 14 through Nov. 18 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Evamere Faculty Dining Room.

businesses begin
HCER and Kathleen Thompson from Business Odyssey will offer "Business Start-up Booster Classes" on Tuesdays from Oct. 14 through 28. This course will include an overview of the skills needed to run a successful business. Classes meet from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Hudson High School. Materials will be provided.
Learn to lead presentations
HCER is offering a Presentation Leadership course. Participants will learn to sell ideas in five minutes. Instructor Ed Dell, owner of Factotum Services, adjunct speech instructor and Certified Ohio Job Instruction Trainer, will share a four-step training model that can be used to present the opening speech at a shareholders meeting, develop and teach an HCER class, or produce a video production. Classes meet for three Tuesdays from Oct. 14 through 28 from 7 to 9 p.m., at Hudson High School.
Class offered for those nearing retirement
HCER offers a program designed for those nearing retirement, titled "Retirement Cautions and Concerns." Investment advisor and Hudson native James C. Sexton III will present this series on retirement and investment topics. Classes meet for three Tuesdays Oct. 14 through 28 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Hudson High School.
Learn 'ABCs of Wine'
James Francisco, owner of Euro Vin Importers, teaches "The ABCs of Wine," which provides participants with basic wine knowledge. Basic grape varieties and taste differences will be explored. No previous wine experience is necessary. The class meets Oct. 15 and 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Country Club of Hudson.
Get a good night's sleep
Carol Baglia, certified Buteyko practitioner and a registered respiratory therapist, will teach a class to help participants get a good night's sleep. The class meets for five Wednesdays from Oct. 15 through Nov. 12 at the Summa Wellness Institute Conference Room 2, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Make your masterpiece
Several HCER classes offers participants the chance to make masterpieces.
"Mosaic Shards" uses crockery shards and found materials to decorate objects. Material list will be given and discussed at the first class. Class meets for five Fridays Oct. 17 through Nov. 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Barlow Community Center Conference Room. The instructor is Jeanne Hromco.
"Feather Tree" teaches participants the art of making the first known artificial Christmas trees. All materials are included for the making of an 18-inch feather tree. Instructor Dr. Dennis E. Bauer teaches the class Oct. 16 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Hudson High School. Visit

"Silk Painting" is open to all ages and skill levels. Participants will paint one of six types of 12-by-60-inch silk scarves. Instructor Janice Lombardo teaches the one -day class Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Hudson High School faculty dining room.
Those 55 and older can learn about Wii
HCER will offer a Wii for Fun and Fitness Class for those 55 and older Tuesdays and Thursdays at Summa Wellness Institute. Participates can play Wii bowling, tennis, golf, baseball, boxing and more.
Summa Wellness Institute has a large movie screen plus several Wii controllers and is inviting residents to stop by on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to noon to play for $2 per visit.
