By winning the recent U.S. Youth Soccer Region II Championships, the Everest Soccer Club Under-17 Boys from Hudson has qualified to compete in the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships, which is set to conclude July 27 at Burns Park Soccer Complex in North Little Rock, Ark.
The tournament will consist of four teams that won their respective regional championship in the under-14 through under-19 age groups as well as the top two teams from the inaugural U.S. Youth Soccer National League in the under-15 and 16 age groups for boys and girls.
The traditional 48 teams have advanced to the national finals through the first two legs of the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship Series where more than 10,000 teams began their journey at the U.S. Youth Soccer State Championships.
State champions advanced to one of four U.S. Youth Soccer Regional Championships, where more than 900 teams compete.
The national championship field consists of 56 teams from these regional champions and national league representatives.
The annual player luncheon is scheduled to take place at the Statehouse Convention Center. The luncheon serves as the kickoff to the week-long event, highlighting the achievements of the players, coaches and staffs and sets the stage for the finals.
The Everest Soccer Club is scheduled to play July 23 through 25 to determine which team will advance to play for the national title.
All round-robin match times are scheduled for 7:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Teams will earn three points for a win, one point for a tie and no points for a loss. The team with the most points at the conclusion July 25 will advance to play for the national championship July 26 and 27.
Team members are Timothy Ahlberg, Matthew Chereson, Mark Connell, Sean Coyne, Jamie Dollar, Christian Earnest, Matt Elliott, Aidan Fenix, Alejandro Garcia, Stephen Grater, Taylor Hamilton, Karl Helfrich, Mark Ilhan, Alex Johnson, Matthew Mason, Evan McCreary, James O'Brien, Shane Ross, Will Shultz, Jordan Smigel and Ty Smith.
The head coach is John Fenix. His assistants are Daniel Johnson and Dan O'Brein.
