The host Hudson boys tennis team improved to 10-5 on the season with a 3-2 victory over Lexington, which was ranked No. 4 in the state in a recent Division I state poll, May 1.
The Explorers won two of their matches in singles play.
Matt McErlean (7-5, 3-6, 6-4) and Alex Hughes (6-0, 6-2) won at first and second singles, respectively, and the second doubles team of Brian Booth and Bret Beaver (6-1, 6-2) also triumphed.
McErlean's match, which determined the team's win, lasted for more than three hours.
"That was a big win," said Hudson head coach Tim Morgan. "The guys are getting better every day despite the schedule they're playing.
"We've played Solon and CVCA [Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy] and both those teams were ranked in the state," he added. "A win like this will definitely help us in the tournament."
The Explorers were scheduled to visit Northeast Ohio Conference Valley Division rival Strongsville May 5 before returning home to play Shaker Heights May 6. Results of those matches were not available at press time.
Hudson is set to conclude the regular season at Western Reserve Academy May 7 at 4 p.m.
The Explorers are scheduled to play at the NOC Championships May 10 at Brush High School.
The first match is slated for 9 a.m.
