Hudson -- Approximately four years after the American Legion Post 464 was built, it is on the market, and members are looking for a new home.
"We're having financial trouble and are thinking about downsizing," Post Commander Glen Marsh said. "We're trying to keep up with the bank payments. We're current and we're trying to stay current."
He added the post is looking for a new location.
Marsh said the building, at 5790 Hudson Drive, has been on the market since the end of 2007.
"If the price is right, we will sell the building and only the building," Marsh said, declining to comment on the price. "We're not disclosing that."
Bill Monbeck Realty, the Realtor Marsh confirmed as the listing agency, would not confirm or deny the pending sale and instead asked for "respect the privacy" concerning the matter.
According to Summit County tax records from 2007, the last available year, the appraised value for the property is $789,970.
In addition to the single-level legion hall, the 3-acre property includes a paved parking lot and a brick-lined path leading up the post's flagpole.
The more than 8,000-square-foot building was constructed in 2004 after the legion and the city reached a compromise after months of eminent domain discussions.
In exchange for deeding to the city the legion's former home on Clinton Street -- which helped pave the way for First & Main -- the city offered the legion the Hudson Drive location.
The city provided the legion with 3 acres of city property on Hudson Drive and $325,000 for construction of the building.
The American Legion Post, which opened in July 2004, includes a kitchen, canteen and dining hall able to seat more than 230 people.
The post boasts between 500 and 550 members, Marsh said.
