Dangerous Deer Population

February 24, 2008

As a Hudson Resident I love being so close to Mother Nature. However I have noticed a detrimental amount of Whitetailed Deer in the city. A healthy deer population consists of approximately 10 deer per square mile. I sometimes see 20 or 30 deer in a small herd. This is not only dangerous to motorists but it is also very unhealthy for the deer as well. I think one way to control this would be an approach not unlike Solon. However, instead of paying a company out of New York to use high powered rifles, I think the city should allow Hudson residents to Bow Hunt on city owned property or private property greater than a determined acreage. Of course this would be done during regular Bow Hunting seasons as determined by the Ohio Division Of Wildlife. And the Venison could be donated to Food Banks in the area.
If Your going to vote to cut down more trees for more housing, then at least give wildlife a fighting chance with the little land they have have left.
