Barbara Ann Crossen (nee Meyers), 87, died Dec. 31, 2007, surrounded by her family at her home in Hudson.
She was born Dec. 9, 1920, in Hartford, Conn., to the late Charles and Margaret Meyers.
She spent her childhood in Hartford, where she graduated from Bulkeley High School in 1938.
She married her husband, Ray Crossen, and continued to live in Connecticut until 1951, when they moved to Ohio. In 1956 they settled in Hudson, where they raised their four children.
Mrs. Crossen was president of Ray Crossen Horse Vans Inc., which she and her husband started in 1965, a successful trucking company that transported all breeds of horses throughout the United States.
She was a successful owner and breeder of thoroughbreds that raced at various tracks in Ohio, with her home base being Thistledown Race Track in North Randall.
Besides watching her horses' race, Barbara enjoyed her country-style home, visiting with relatives and friends, spending time with her grandchildren and gardening.
Throughout her retirement, she continued to enjoy these things as well as traveling with her husband and spending the winters in Florida.
She was a member of Mother of Sorrows Church in Peninsula.
Mrs. Crossen was preceded in death by her son, Raymond Crossen Jr., and brother and sister-in-law, Al and Martha Meyers.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Ray; her daughters, Barbara (Terry) McMullen of Jacksonville, Fla., Jean (Bob) Smith of Cuyahoga Falls and Mary Jo (Jamie) Musarro of Hudson; grandchildren, Chris (Elizabeth) McMullen, and Katie, Michael, Adam and Joseph Musarro; great-grandchildren, Kathryn and Caroline McMullen; brother, Robert (Martha) Meyers; and sister, Vivian "Bibs" Meyers.
A funeral service was Jan. 3 at Mother of Sorrows. Burial took place at Northlawn Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Johnson-Romito Funeral Home.
